Artistic Biography

French bass singer and writer Philip Sarrouy, is acclaimed for his expressive interpretations and commanding stage presence. Philip made his operatic debut as Alcindoro in La Bohème at the Royal National Opera of Wallonia-Liège. Since then, he has performed Zuniga in Carmen in Pézenas, Leporello in Don Giovanni with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, Gregorio in Roméo et Juliette in Brussels, and Pandolfe in Cendrillon in Liège. His concert work includes Verdi’s Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, and Bruckner’s Te Deum, performed in venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Paris’s Val-de-Grâce, the Philharmonic Auditorium of Liège and the "Palais des Beaux-Arts" of Charleroi. In 2026, he will appear at Carnegie Hall. He is the recipient of numerous international prizes, including Best Vocalist at the Intercontinental Music Awards (Los Angeles), Master Prize at the Golden Prestige International Music Competition, Diamond Prize at the Max Bruch International Music Competition, Master Prize of the Music Talent Award, First Prize at the New York Classical Debut Award, in the Chamber Music Category, with Myla Kato-Duvally, Best Musician of the Season Prize at the Clementi International Music Competition and Grand Prize at the Los Angeles International Online Music Competition. Studied at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, he also holds a Master’s in Philosophy from the University of Reims and pursued doctoral training in the Arts at Lille University. Currently, he refines his operatic technique and artistic rendition under Juan Carlos Morales and his repertoire with Irène Kudela in Paris. Looking ahead, Philip prepares major roles such as Banco in Verdi’s Macbeth, König Marke in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, and Count Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon, Hérode in L’Enfance du Christ by Hector Berlioz, the bass soloist in Magnificat by Johann Sebastian Bach and Méphistophélès in La Damnation de Faust by Hector Berlioz. Alongside his musical career, he pursues interdisciplinary research, creative writing, with a particular focus on fictional writing (“proême” – proem, Proematic) conceived as a part of research PhD, and the practice of Taichi Chuan style Zhaobao, Qi Gong and Yi Quan in Amiens, France.
